Our op shops have temporarily closed due to COVID-19

Our op shops are temporarily closed

Through the coronavirus crisis, the Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) has continued to focus on its mission of serving the most disadvantaged in our community, who need us now more than ever.

During the short time that COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, we hoped to re-open as many stores as we could. Having stores open means we can support people experiencing disadvantage with access to affordable goods, and provide our customers and volunteers stability and the opportunity for social connection, which is so valuable.

Unfortunately, due to the stage four COVID-19 restrictions throughout Melbourne, we will once again temporarily close our stores, effective from 6 August 2020. Only our Grovedale store in regional Victoria will remain open.

We hope to open all of our stores again soon, once the restrictions are lifted.

This means we can no longer receive or collect donated goods. Please don’t leave goods outside our stores.

We will be happy to take your donations as soon as we reopen.

Shop online from the comfort of your home

While our stores are closed, you can still op shop online whenever you like. Visit our BSL eBay Store to browse through a great range of vintage clothing, iconic fashion brands and rare collectibles at great prices. All items have been generously donated, are sorted, cleaned and sanitised before being dispatched.

Our online bookshop is still open

Brotherhood Books remains open. It is a treasure-trove of tens of thousands of quality second-hand books for you to explore and purchase. With all of us spending more time at home, now’s the time to fall in love (again) with books. All items are cleaned before dispatch.

Help support our COVID-19 response

Like you, our greatest concern is for those in our community facing deep disadvantage, who need help now, and even more than ever.

If you still have the ability, we would greatly appreciate your donation to help us restore hope for the most vulnerable in our community.

Your kind donation will help BSL support the increased needs of those experiencing disadvantage.

This includes the continuity of essential services including helping parents (often single parents or recent arrivals) with the resources to support their children’s education and development while they’re at home, and helping job seekers with employment opportunities.

Your donation will also support us to advocate and collaborate with both federal and Victorian governments. We need to continue to drive urgent social justice responses to ensure our frontline services can support vulnerable communities. And as this crisis continues, we need to help build better models for enabling people experiencing disadvantage find sustainable pathways out of poverty.

In a crisis of this kind, we must not forget that we are a community, and now is the time for compassion.

If you can, please make a tax deductible donation* now.

Let’s stay together while we’re apart

You can keep up-to-date with the status of our op shops by following us on Facebook and Instagram. We’d love to hear how you are managing through this time and invite you to post your stories, tips and advice with the wider BSL community to make this period a little easier.
