Through these unprecedented and challenging times, the Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) has continued to focus on its mission of serving the most disadvantaged in our community, who need us now more than ever.
We kept our stores open for as long as we could to support people experiencing disadvantage with access to affordable goods, and to provide our customers and volunteers stability and the opportunity for social connection, which is so valuable in disruptive times like this. We have done this whilst also ensuring to keep our staff and volunteers safe by implementing expert government guidance on social distancing and hygiene.
Unfortunately, now however, due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, we will be temporarily closing all of our 23 stores, effective from 2 April 2020.
We hope to open again soon, once the health crisis has lifted.
This means we can no longer receive or collect donated goods. We will be happy to take your donations as soon as we reopen, but in the meantime, please don’t leave goods outside our stores.
We continue to operate our Brotherhood Books site which is a treasure-trove of tens of thousands of quality second-hand books for you to explore and purchase. With all of us spending more time at home, now’s the time to fall in love (again) with books.
All our donated books are routinely cleaned before they are despatched, and you know that your purchase will go to continuing to support BSL in serving the most disadvantaged in our community right now.
And you can support us in other ways
As the crisis unfolds, we at BSL continue to be a strong voice for the most disadvantaged in our community and remain staunchly committed to our cause to advocate for those most disadvantaged in our community, and our mission for a fairer, more compassionate, and just society.
It’s important to remember that even though each of us faces our own difficulties, we are a community: all people matter. And the most disadvantaged – those who find themselves unable to put food on the table or pay their bills and rent – need our support right now.
It’s time to stand together and be the community that we aspire to be.
Our stores may not be open, but you can still support BSL in serving those in need by making a tax-deductible donation today*. Please donate now at bsl.org.au/donate
Let’s stay together while we’re apart.
And if you have any questions whilst we’re closed, you can contact stores(at)bsl.com.au.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on when our stores will re-open.
Until then, we hope you and those you care about stay safe and well.
With our kindest thoughts,
The BSL Team
