We’re recruiting volunteers from all backgrounds and levels of experience across each of our 23 stores. Whether you’re new to retail or a seasoned professional, we’d love to hear from you.

By volunteering with the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, you'll help support the most vulnerable members of our community with a brighter future. You’ll also help us continue to raise funds through our stores for the many life changing community programs, services and research we undertake to address the fundamental causes of poverty in Australia.

Current opportunities

BSL Op Shop Volunteers

Our volunteers cover a wide range of duties, from sorting donations to creating vibrant displays, supporting back of house operations and assisting customers throughout the store. While the daily duties may change from time to time, our wonderful store managers will ensure you have all the training, support and guidance you need to feel confident while learning the ropes in a new position.

No specific experience is necessary, only a positive can-do attitude. Apply now if you’re ready to:

Hunter Gatherer Store Volunteers

Our three Hunter Gatherer stores are located in the heart of Melbourne City, Fitzroy and Geelong West, and we’re proud to offer an amazing range of recycled contemporary and vintage fashion, specially curated through generous donations.

We’re looking for volunteers who have a great eye for detail, know their brands and labels, love keeping up to date with fashion trends and will help us offer the best service to our customers.

Hunter Gatherer is focused more than ever on ensuring a safe working environment for all of our volunteers with COVID safe practices. For more information on what we are doing click here 

While daily tasks may vary, our volunteers spend their time:

  • Offering a great service to customers, helping them find second-hand pieces
  • Creating beautiful, vibrant displays and window features
  • Replenishing racks and shelves with freshly donated stock
  • Keeping the store neat and tidy

We’re not looking for specific retail experience, just a passion for second hand fashion, and the desire to lend a hand!


Brotherhood Books Warehouse Volunteers

Open to all levels of experience, and book lovers in particular!

Do you have a love of books and looking to explore new opportunities?

Lend your knowledge and be part of the team that keeps books out of landfill reducing our carbon footprint and helping BSL support people in our community experiencing disadvantage.
